3D TV: HDMI Consortium Releases HDMI 1.4a Specification

The HDMI Consortium recently released a new specification to support 3D TV for HD televisions. The consortium (made up of electronics companies Hitachi, Panasonic, Philips Consumer Electronics, International B.V., Silicon Image, Inc., Sony Corporation, Technicolor, S.A., and Toshiba Corporation) released the HDMI 1.4a specification to give some guidance to hardware vendors as to how displays could render 3d images.
iPad release date April 3rd, Pre-orders March 12th

Apple announces today that the long awaited iPad can be ordered starting March 12th. The actual release date will be April 3rd. There have been rumors of production until late summer but this, at least for now, negates those.

Today Motorola announced another offering with AT&T. Motorola’s BACKFLIP will be AT&T’s first phone with Android. The phone will be available March 7th.

I think we’ve all realized that the mobile device race is not about size anymore. Today’s race is about feature density and Toshiba has leapt past all of it competition in the mobile camera department.
Today Toshiba announced a TWELVE megapixel camera and chip for mobile. With most a US domestic cameras using cameras at or below 5 megapixels this is a chip that really pushes Moore’s law.

Panasonic gives NBC 152 inch plasma for Olympic coverage

Panasonic announced today that part of it’s partnership with NBC would include giving NBC a 152-inch plasma display. According to Panasonic it’s the largest screen of it’s kind. The enormous screen will be used in the studio to enhance NBC’s coverage.
